Sorry folks! :)
Sorry for the deception folks but yesterday's blog about "long forgotten" Apollo comic was, as some of you guessed, an April Fool!
Apollo comic never existed. I created the phony covers with Photoshop, and the "panels" of artwork were enlarged scans of the 1971(?) Brooke Bond Picture Card series The Race into Space. The comics don't exist outside of my computer. (The photo above is also faked.)
Yes, the blog was uploaded after mid-day, which I suppose makes me the fool, but I was unable to post it before then unfortunately.
Anyway, no hard feelings I hope. Don't worry, any future blogs will all be genuine... at least for another twelve months. ;-)
So that explains why I had never of Apollo! You had me fooled.
ReplyDeleteThere was of course an Apollo Annual, based on the comic but which was actually published 12 years before the first issue! Strange, but I know it's true, I read it somewhere...
ReplyDeleteHey anon, I think you may be thinking of Sputnik Annualski, a Russian comic annual that was accidentally rerouted to Liverpool docks in 1960 because of the fog. Because of anti-Communist hysteria at the time British customs slapped an "Apollo Annual" logo over the masthead and had it sold in UK newsagents.
ReplyDeleteB*gger. It's April 2nd. Ah well, worth a try. ;-)
That's right, Lew, you're right again. As usual! And that's why I still think they ain't gonna like this!!
ReplyDeleteYou wee scamp!
ReplyDeleteI'm running a feature on RACE INTO SPACE in an upcoming issue of ELEPHANTMEN, which I believe to be a real comic.
I think we need to award you th "Wooden Spoon" Award for the biggest stirrer... ;)
ReplyDeleteIt certainly has the look of a 1972 comic, though.

My disapointment is such that I demand that you return to photoshop and complete a 16 page issue of Apollo.
ReplyDeleteGo on, you know you want to....
That was stuopid to waste our time. Haven't you got anything better to do.
ReplyDeleteChill out anonymous! It was only a joke. I thought it was very well executed.
ReplyDeleteI'll be careful what I believe from this blog from now on. :-(((
ReplyDeleteFor goodness sake Angus, it was only meant as a one-off!
ReplyDeleteOh Lew, I'm sorry and terribly disappointed!
ReplyDeleteI'd still like a couple of scans of the interior. Any chance of seeing the contents of the Annual? ;-)
It just wasn't funny Lew.
ReplyDeleteHi Lew, loved your Apollo April Fool's page, it looks like you used Countdown as your guide, am I right, or has someone else already said that.
ReplyDeleteNice bit of Photoshop too, I like he way you curved the cover picture.
Thanks David. Yes, I tried to make it look like it ripped off Countdown. Glad you appreciated it anyway, even if some others didn't! :)
