It was 45 years ago today...

Saturday October 11th 1969. The day that IPC launched their new humour weekly Whizzer and Chips. A clever '2-in-1' gimmick that paid off for the company and a fun comic that was enjoyed by a new generation of readers.

I don't have time to cover the anniversary today, but even if I did it would only reiterate what I posted five years ago celebrating its 40th. If you missed that post, or want to read it again, you'll find it here:

Whizz-Kid or Chip-Ite? I was neutral.

I was neutral too, but there does seem to be a hazy memory in the back of my mind of my mother trying to convince my brother and I that we had a "comic each" when she returned with a Whizzer & Chips one day in the early 80s! But if that worked it was only briefly...as I can totally remember being distraught as a school friend butchered their copy to share with their sister by ripping out the Chips section!

Yes Anon, I was going to plug that here but they never sent me a copy in the end. They did it several years ago.

Ewan, for the first year of the comic I used to pull out the Chips section as instructed, and read them separately.
