FOOTBALL GALAXY kicks off!

A new comic magazine appeared on the shelves a few weeks ago, - Football Galaxy, a 40 page glossy all-colour publication for £3.99. It's bagged with gifts, as these mags usually are now, but amongst its features you'll find nine pages of brand new comic strips.

All the strips are by Nigel Parkinson (with some scripts by Paul Palmer) and take place 'far away in time and space', centering around a football team on another planet. Here you'll meet cyborg soccer star Billy Basher...
...the fans of Space Kop...
...Old-time intergalactic groundsman Pop...
...and others including a tentacled alien in a sheepskin coat. The rest of the magazine is taken up with football features such as this...
The tone of the mag is very lighthearted and irreverent in the vein of Toxic and Mega, although there are also informative features on today's footie stars for the young fan.

Football Galaxy is published by Shubrook Bros. Media LLP, and I think the frequency is every three weeks. Issue 2 is in the shops now.

  1. My son has been getting this. I signed him up as soon as I read about it on your blog. He's just getting into football and comics are a big love of his (sensible boy).

Sadly issue three has arrived this morning along with a letter saying that it's the last issue

A real shame as it was a nice mix of football facts and some great comic strips

"Dear Subscriber, It is with sincere regret that we have to inform you that Football Galaxy will cease publicatio after this current issue (issue 3).

We believe we have a strong product, but we are a small company and find ourselves in a position where producing the magazine is no longer viable due to finanial issues"

  2. That's a shame. It had excellent distribution and was everywhere, but it's so hard to get kids interested in buying comics regularly these days. Thanks for the update.

  3. Another up[date for you Lew. My son was very excited to sport a copy of Football Galaxy Issue 4 on the shelves of our local supermarket this week, despite the publisher telling us it had folded and refunding our subscription money.

His excitement soon turned to disappointment though once he opened the plastic bag and got the magazine out. The magazine now has NO comic strip content. They have retained the comic strip characters, but they only appear as the occasional talking head introducing a magazine feature. The paper stock is much thinner too.

He won't be getting it again it was mainly the comic strips be liked.

It seems to now be published by a different publisher too, which is probably why they never emailed out previous subscribers about it's continuation

  4. Yes, I saw it on the shelves the other day. Now published by Skyjack. I didn't buy it so thanks for letting me know there are no strips in it. It's never good news when a mag cuts its budget to that extent.
