Beano best seller

Cover by Nigel Parkinson.
I was pleased to hear that The Beano Annual was the best selling annual for Christmas, beating its nearest rivals with 50% more sales.

The Dandy Annual did well too, achieving the number nine spot with 18% higher sales than the previous year.

John Freeman has the details and you can read more about it on his long running Down the Tubes website of British comics:

  1. Isn't it great that annuals still sell - when I was a kid annuals were an essential part of Christmas morning :)

  2. Managed to pick up the Dandy and Beano Annuals for £1 each in Sainsburys.

I enjoyed the cameo appearance by Dennis's dad as he used to be drawn in the Billy Whizz strip.

  3. Huh, I'd've thought the Dandy was the bigger seller this year. Still loads of Beano annuals available but the Dandy one seems to be sold out everywhere!

Probably just a lower print run.

  4. Quantities of both seemed about the same around here but both have sold out now. Yes, I'm sure The Beano Annual would have had a bigger print run. I think they're birth still available on Amazon though, and directly from DC Thomson.

  5. Sorry, should be 'both', not birth! Bloomin' auto correct!
