VIZ reaches issue 250

Who says being rude isn't big or clever? Britain's top sweary comic Viz is celebrating 250 issues this week. The comic began 36 years ago as a humble 'small press' comic with a tiny print run and soared to success a few years later selling a million copies an issue. It might not have those enviable figures today, but it's still one of Britain's top selling comics.

Apart from the excellent cover illustration by Simon Thorp the latest Viz plays down its significant landmark of 250 issues and it's pretty much business as usual inside. Of course business as usual for Viz means it's chock-full of chuckles with your cheery fun-chums getting up to hilarious scrapes, with a good dollop of satire, wry social comment and enough bad language to fill a modest sized swear box.

I'm sure you don't need any more convincing from me. You either 'get' Viz or you don't. Personally I've enjoyed it from day one and consider it one of the best British comics ever published. Here's to the next 250 issues!

Viz No.250, 52 pages, out now, £3.20.
Viz editors / contributors Graham Dury and Simon Thorp will be at the Lakes Comic Art Festival this weekend in Kendall.

  2. Thanks Lew for the news of Viz 250 and of Comic Heroes' return. I've now bought them from my local Smiths, but would probably have missed them if not for your blog.

  3. That's good to know. Thanks Dave.

Colin Jones: why do you often remove your comments after publication? I don't get it!

  4. Once again, it's one milestone for one magazine, and one for everyone else.
