Hard to believe now but decades ago free gifts were a rarity with The Beano and The Dandy. After 1940 the next free gift didn't appear in The Beano until 1960! There's the ad for it above (from The Dandy No.987, Oct.22nd 1960); "The Flying Snorter Balloon".
