You already knew about One-Eyed Jack by John Wagner and John Cooper, but today Rebellion have announced that other books will include:
Misty Book 2: The Sentinels and End of the Line.
The Leopard from Lime Street drawn by Mike Western and Eric Bradbury.
Marney the Fox: the wonderful adventure strip from Buster by Scott Goodall and John Stokes.

They are doing a collection of FaceAche?!? that is very surprising and good news. Comedy strips are very overlooked in the reprint field of Classic British comics

ReplyDeleteThey're all very exciting news but I'm most intrigued by Marnie The Fox which I'd never heard of. We were only talking about John Stokes the other day. I'm also thrilled to read they'll be releasing one reprint book a month in the Treasury series from next year. We never had it so good!
ReplyDeleteI only saw a few episodes of Marney as it was around during the years I'd stopped buying children's comics but it was superbly drawn by John Stokes. I think it'll go down well with young and old.

ReplyDeleteAgreed, Peter. This is the sort of thing Egmont should have done with the strips years ago. I wish Rebellion the very best with this and I'll be helping to promote the books as best I can.

ReplyDeleteI'm very pleased with the choices they've made. All of those books are solid, well-told stories.
one thing I'm wondering about is.. they say the Faceache one will be hardback compared to the others and Ken Reid.. So I get the impression it'll be a sample collection.. the strip did change a lot and was probably one of his longest running, but the last year or two was Frank McDiarmid I believe. So to be a complete run (which was.. a bit shorter then 20 years), I would be mostly Ken Reid with Frank McDiarmid. Can't remember how many strips there was but. mostly 2 pages.. 20 years, a fair size.. so again 'hardback' makes me think probably smaller then complete.. oh well, shall have to wait and see ^_^
ReplyDeleteThere's been no suggestion the book is the complete Faceache, Manic. What gave you that impression? This will be volume 1 and if it's successful enough there will be more I presume. The reason it's hardback is because it deserves it.
ReplyDeleteThe Faceache strips are full pagers, not two pagers. I don't know how many pages the book will have yet but I'm guessing it'll cover at least the first three years. Ken drew it until his death in 1987 so there's about 16 years of material if we're lucky to see it all in print. (The earliest years being the best, when he was writing it himself.)
Nothing suggested it. Nothing said anything about what is features apart from Faceache by Ken Reid, which is what I was wondering about ^_^ it makes sense it'll be just the first volume and yep, no problem with hardback, it's just I find the hardback ones are normally smaller these days, then softback. not always but normally.

ReplyDeleteI hope not. The strips were drawn for black and white, with shading, hatching, etc. Adding colour would clutter up the artwork and would be totally unnecessary. Let the pages be seen as intended.
ReplyDeleteYou've already partly answered this and I appreciate your knowledge is as limited as everyone else's but I hope Faceache will be complete - although not in this volume. if this volume's given the same treatment as Ro-Busters or Dan Dare it may very well be 150 to 200 pages, which would be about 3 or 4 years (discounting of course nonappearances or the strikes which hit more than once in '74. This being so it's unlikely we'll get to Belmont School in this volume, Faceache's adventures there beginning in Jan '78. I wouldn't be adverse to a "Best of", but my hopes are as above.

ReplyDeleteI wasn't confused, or at least no more than I am about most things! I appreciate that you might have "inside knowledge" you can't reveal in advance of Rebellion. All the same it'd have been nice if Bella Barlow or Pam Watts had got an outing this time. Just realised I'll have to check my Buster Annuals & Specials to make sure Billy Farmer's one-shots are included. With approximately 450 weekly strips to come I should worry, but still!
