80 Year Flashback: Barry Ono on Pathe News

I've linked to this in the past but in case you haven't seen it, here's a nice short newsreel of music hall comedian Barry Ono back in 1937 with his bound collections of 'Penny Dreadfuls'.

It's good to know that even back then there were collectors of vintage publications. As you're no doubt aware, 'Penny Dreadfuls' was the term given to the blood-curdling Victorian story papers that preceded the comics. I doubt that many people collect them today, but I remember seeing some at an exhibition in the 1980s.

Sadly, Mr.Ono passed away in 1941, a few years after this was filmed and his collection was bequeathed to the British Library.
