...and one I know lots of people have been hoping to see...
Billy's Boots, Book One written by Fred Baker and drawn by John Gillatt (although John didn't take over the strip until later, so that'll be corrected as these early episodes were by Mike Western, Tom Kerr, and others). The story reprinted from Scorcher from 1970.

These are exciting times for fans of classic British comics and I hope you'll give the books your full support!
I am definitely am. A birth of a new collection in fact.
ReplyDeleteThat's good to hear, Sid. Although I get advance preview PDFs I still buy most of them too.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait for billys boots
ReplyDeleteforgive me for being a bit.. stupid here but, although it did merge into Eagle which I think was part of the Egmont Fleetway sell off of 2000AD to Rebellion, but I didn't know that Wildcat was part of that deal... Kinda makes sense, though I don't think anything has been done with the wildcat characters since.. early 90s I believe..
ReplyDeleteEagle is not owned by Egmont or Rebellion. It's owned by the Dan Dare Corporation, but strips that started in comics that Rebellion own (eg: Wildcat or Scream!) that merged into Eagle are owned by Rebellion.
ReplyDeleteReally looking forward to the Wildcat book. Pre-ordered it myself as soon as I found out about it, so just impatiently waiting for January now. Hopefully it's a success so that the other characters get their chance in the spotlight too, the comic certainly deserves to be remembered!
ReplyDeleteAh, of course Eagle is still DDC.. yeah.. should have remember that if Scream was part of the deal, Wildcat would have been too ^_^ like I said, being a bit stupid ^_^ thanks
ReplyDeleteBasically, with the exception of Eagle and any licensed comic, all the titles published by IPC/Fleetway that began from Whizzer and Chips onwards are now under the Rebellion banner. Although there'd be some complications with Oink! and Scouse Mouse because they were packaged for IPC by outside companies and some strips are creator-owned.
ReplyDeletethat'll keep the tradepaper backs coming out for... well.. some time since they seam interested in doing some very niche market ones too..
ReplyDeleteIt depends how well they're selling of course. I presume Misty is doing ok as it's up to volume 3 already. The sad thing is that some comic shops won't order them because "they're old and British so there's no demand". That was said to me when I tried to buy the One-Eyed Jack book from my nearest comic shops. The irony that I was there actually willing to order the book was lost on them.
ReplyDeleteyeah.. I was talking to someone only the other day about how various shops (not just comic shops) used to be okay with ordering you in a copy of something but that seams completely missing these days.. and I keep talking about how Comic Shops in the Uk are mostly only interested in American comics ¬_¬
ReplyDeleteI got excited seeing the Tom Kerr cover but it doesn't look like he's doing the content. I think he did some Billy's Boots so hopefully there will be further volumes.
ReplyDeleteAs I said, I think the cover credits will be corrected. Tom did indeed draw a lot of the early ones. I presume they're starting from the beginning, long before John Gillatt took over.
ReplyDeleteSorry Lew, obviously didn't read that part. Really have to stop skimming. That makes this a must buy for me.
ReplyDeleteMay give the Billy's Boots one a go.
ReplyDeleteAfter originally buying all of the Treasury titles direct from Rebellion to support the line, I'm being more selective nowadays and only picking up titles I want to read if I see them going cheap on Amazon or eBay.
If I buy them online I tend to use Book Deposity, Word, etc, who I believe do pay their taxes in this country,
ReplyDeleteAmazon Marketplace FTW! Often go third-party unless it's something I want urgently.
