Doctor Who Comic No.2 preview
In the shops today was the second issue of Titan's Doctor Who Comic. Another 84 pages packed with strips featuring the 10th, 11th, and 12th Doctors by some top talent including Robbie Morrison, Dave Taylor, Al Ewing, Simon Fraser, Nick Abadsis and Elena Casagrande.
Here's a few snapshots I took of my copy...
Doctor Who Comic No.2, £3.99. Not to be confused (although some do) with Panini's Doctor Who Magazine which is still going strong every 4 weeks (see here) or Immediate Media's Doctor Who Adventures mag for younger readers.
Wasn't supposed to be out just yet. Issue 1 said next issue was due on 19th, not 18th, of March. Obviously my local branch of WHSmith was sticking to that date, as it wasn't there when I looked (neither was issue 1, which is a good sign as that means it sold out and they probably underestimated demand).
ReplyDeleteIt happens like that sometimes. Commando is supposed to be out every other Thursday but always arrives a day early in my local Smiths.

ReplyDeleteMy subscription for issue 2 hasn't come yet but maybe tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIs it every 3 weeks then ? I thought issue 1 came out on 26th Feb ?
ReplyDeleteIt's in the shops now Steve. If you look in the back of issue 1 you'll see an ad for No.2 where it states publication as 19th March.
ReplyDeleteHowever, in the back of issue 2 it says No.3 will be out on 23rd April, which is five weeks away! Who knows what the frequency is supposed to be?
Incidentally, it doesn't seem to be shifting in my local Smiths who not only insist on putting it in the young children's section but also hide it behind Doctor Who Adventures. They seem to think it's the same publication. They also do the same by hiding The Beano behind Dennis and Gnasher's Epic Magazine.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I do mean "hidden". Completely obscured. I only found them because I looked for them. Passing customers would not have been aware of them at all, so there's no possibility of catching the eye of potential new readers.
It really is time publishers and retailers worked together to educate the staff in how to display comics properly. At the moment everything is to the advantage of the retail giants. They charge a fortune for stocking the comics so they make a profit whether the comics sell or not.
This issue was much easier to find in my local WHSmiths this time, now clearly displayed near the Dr Who mag.
ReplyDeleteNow back to wondering why I've never been able to find that wonderful Judge Dredd partwork in WHS. In fact the new edition was harder to find anywhere, guess they may be hoping everyone has taken out a sub by now and save them having to deal with newsagents.
Attempts to buy Doctor Who Comic have broken the till system in both Sainsbury's (no. 1) and WHSmith (no.2) - Sainsbury's (Kidlington, Oxfordshire) decided to sell it as Doctor Who Adventures, while WHSmith (Leeds station) entered the code manually but warned me not to put the sold title anywhere near the weight-sensitive panel otherwise it would break the till...
ReplyDeleteHow weird. Sounds like a barcode glitch but Smiths really shouldn't register it as a sale to a rival publication. Very wrong, but not the first time it's happened.
