Panini UK's latest relaunch is Astonishing Spider-Man, which begins a new first issue this week. It's actually volume 7 No.1, but anything that helps bring in new readers has to be a good thing.
I once saw a guy crestfallen in a comic shop as he'd tried to interest the owner in buying his copy of "Spider-Man No.1!". He wasn't trying to con the owner. He genuinely thought the first issue of Panini's Astonishing Spider-Man that he'd had and carefully saved since he was a boy was the actual real first appearance of Spider-Man, and not a reprint of a standard 1980s issue. You could see his illusions shatter as the truth was explained to him and he almost had tears in his eyes as he left, still carrying the comic the shop owner didn't want. Had to feel sorry for him, but comic shop retailers encounter people like that all the time.
So... reprint comics might not be an investment, but they can still serve their primary purpose, which is to entertain! If you haven't read Spidey's adventures for a while, jump on board with this week's issue. (It's published fortnightly.)

Used to get this for years when I was a teenager in its early days. Very tempted to switch back as the US imports have gone up again and £3.40 an issue ( I buy mine of ebay) these collecotrs editions are offering even more value than ever before. Also they seem not to far behind either.
ReplyDeleteThere is now also a DEADPOOL one-shot in the same £9.99 softback format as the Thanos edition. It's also racked with the CE format titles.
ReplyDeleteThe Thanos one is still on sale.
Yes, I'd heard about that. Thanks, SR. Interesting that Panini are doing these specials to (hopefully) attract the movie audience. I wonder if we'll see an Ant-Man and the Wasp one in July?
