Thanks to Bryan Talbot for pointing out this fascinating article (written by John McShane I believe) regarding The Glasgow Looking Glass. Published in 1825 it's regarded as the first regularly produced comics periodical in the world, yet few know about it. The paper featured comic strips, word balloons, and even the term "to be continued" leading into next week's episode. Follow this link for the article on Wikipedia:

It's really interesting stuff! I don't think we make enough noise about how old our medium is! Also the Americans are always claiming credit!
