Eaglemoss launch DC Comics Graphic Novel Collection

Not much spare time for blogging at the moment but here's a quick plug for the DC Comics Graphic Novel Collection that has just been launched by Eaglemoss in the UK. The format is the same as the long running Marvel partworks that Hachette have produced and the launch edition (shown above) is just £2.99 which is in newsagents now. (Note: After the first few issues, shops often only take partworks on an reservation only basis, so you may have to 'place a regular order at your newsagent' as they used to say in the comics.)

From the looks of things the books will reprint contemporary material but it'll be from before the 'New 52' relaunch that DC did across their line in 2011. To find out more info, see the website here:

Looking at the front cover, perhaps the story should have been entitled 'blush' instead of 'hush' as batman's crotch seems to be hurtling towards the viewer!

Perhaps he's auditioning for the Tiller Girls.

Finally got mine on Friday. I say "finally", as there was a poster on the door of my corner shop over 2 weeks ago, saying, ".... In store today!...." Yet inside the shop, and everywhere else on my town, NOBODY knew ANYTHING about it!!??
So, looking it up on the internet, I found the correct publication date.
I'm after one of those only-available-in - certain-areas Berry Anderso trial #1's now!

Sadly the Gerry Anderson part work didn't prove popular enough in its test area so they only did four. Good luck finding them!

The 'build your collection' format has alot to answer for. The world is full of half assembled human skeletons and encyclapedias that only go as far as 'm' in the alphabet. For a batman collection, I would have put 'The killing joke' up on the premier issue but that's a bit obvious. I always thought the charecters in Batman were much better than the stories. Commisioner Gordon, the joker, the penguin etc are just very entertaining to read even if the story is a load of rubbish. I'm reading 'Harley quinn and Power girl' at the moment, the entertainment value comes from the awkward relationship between the two titular charecters and not at all from the story, which is just a mechinism whereby we can have fun with thefact that power girl disaproves of Harley who perpetually winds her up.but they're stuck together. It's a sort of 'odd couple', it's great fun. You can do this stuff with the Bat gang, it doesnt matter whats going on with the plot.

Killing Joke is a very slim book, so it wouldn't be suitable for these books of 200 pages or thereabouts.

The Marvel and Judge Dredd partworks are published by Hachette, unless Eaglemoss are part of the same group? I got part 1 at the weekend but it's considerably thinner than the Judge Dredd partwork, about 140 pages compared to 200 so JD has it beaten in terms of value for money imo. Also the front and back cover have a glossy finish making it more like a UK christmas annual rather than the matte finish on the Hachette books.

Thanks for pointing out the typo. I had Eaglemoss on the brain. I'll correct that.

The books will vary in length. According to Previews book 1 has 160 pages, book 2 will have 176 and so on. I haven't bothered buying it myself as I read Hush when it was first published and it didn't really appeal to me.

I was hoping they might publish some 60s - 70s titles but I will keep an eye on them as there are some good DC books from the period covered here - at least it's not that mostly ( imho) awful post 52 stuff.

According to the solicitations in Previews, each book has a back up strip from the golden or silver age if relevant to the lead story.
