Halloween comics!

Over the years, Halloween has taken over from Bonfire Night themes in children's comics. Here are the covers of the latest issues of Beano and The Phoenix, in shops now (if you're lucky enough to have local shops that stock them). Alternatively, you could subscribe to each comic at their websites:

That's last week's Beano, though this week's is also Halloween themed.

Unfortunately, that's the most recent cover I could find and assumed it was the latest one. Sadly, Beano.com doesn't show new covers anymore, and my nearest shops don't stock it. Never mind. There'll be another issue out on Wednesday so this post will be redundant by then.

Guy Fawkes Night is still far more important as far as I'm concerned!! And November 5th will also be the 8th anniversary of my mother's death so for me it means more than just fireworks - but I do love the fireworks! When I was a kid Halloween meant nothing and nowadays it's just a way for children to knock at the door asking for money. Luckily there are hardly any Trick-or-Treaters around here normally - and I pretend to be out anyway. Bah humbug.

I think we're expected to give them sweets, not money, Colin. Some couples I know keep a big dish of sweets handy so the trick or treaters can grab a handful. I tend not to get any around my way anyway, so no worries.

This is the cover you was looking for.

You can usually rely on Newsstand.co.uk to upload them (though the site claims it has 52 issues a year instead of 50, and the product description is clearly not from DCT, with the wrongly spelt "Kidz" and "Numbskulls" and a mention of "terribly poor story lines").

Thanks James. If I take images from other sites they're usually the official Beano or Phoenix sources, so I hadn't seen the Newsstand site. Some publishers supply press releases, but sadly Thomsons don't do it for the Beano, only Commando.
