Out today from Panini UK

The history of British reprints of Marvel comics dates back to the 1950s with titles such as Captain America Comics and Wyatt Earp, so it's good to see the tradition continues today. Back in the 1950s it was indie publisher Len Miller who was putting out the Marvel reprints. Today it's the international giant Panini, but the reader is the winner either way.

Although I had concerns about Deadpool's overexposure in Panini titles (I'd rather Astonishing Spider-Man focused on someone other than Deadpool for one of their strips), I am enjoying DEADPOOL UNLEASHED.

The "Deadpool during Secret Wars" strip is a lot of fun. As is the strip with Deadpool working with his mercenaries.

I wish this title luck!

Much as I enjoyed the movie, I've never liked the Deadpool comics. (I've tried to, but the approach to humour falls flat for me.) I'm glad it does have a following though and I'm happy to help promote the UK edition.

I haven't found DOCTOR WHO MAGAZINE yet (tried several W H Smiths around Glasgow)...?

Lew Stringer said...

Strange. I'd have thought a large city like Glasgow would definitely have it. Other branches stock it next to SFX, Sci Fi Now etc.

Specifically I haven't found this month's issue, sir. Is it late?

Lew Stringer said...

No, it came out last Thursday. Have you asked Smiths why they haven't put it out?

I found that Tesco Extra in Cabuslang / Rutherglen had some copies, so I have it now. That makes it difficult to ask Smiths about it, since I don't intend to commit to buying it there - they're all inconvenient to get to. Asda didn't have it last week.

I had already asked in the Argyle Street Smiths, but the member of staff who could have told me wasn't in. They could be confused about all the "special issue" titles at the same time, or the stopping of "Doctor Who Adventures".

I never did get the "2000AD Anniversary Special" either.

I talked to another worker at Smiths about not getting my magazine. The story now is that they got it, but fewer copies and it sold out. Either that they intentionally reduced the order, or there were fewer copies to distribute and so, all stores got fewer than they ordered. Maybe? I'll see what happens this month.

Now copies of "Doctor Who" showed up in W H Smith in Glasgow Central Station - two weeks late. Huh. Plenty there.

No "Avengers" or "Wolverine", which should be this week's releases, but I picked up "Justice League".
