Blog Break 2014 (Updated)

It's feast or famine when you're a freelancer (no pie jokes please) and work has increased considerably recently. I've a lot of comics work on at present, - some I can't talk about yet, - so this blog will be taking a little rest for a week or two, or three. There are over 1,200 different posts on loads of different comics and strips, so I hope newer visitors will have a look through the archive (there's a list on the right) and perhaps long time readers will revisit older posts.

I'll still be posting quick updates to my other blog which covers my own work (http://lewstringercomics.blogspot.com) which I hope you'll also visit.

UPDATE: The sabbatical may be cut short, as I've just heard that a copy of a brand new comic is winging its way to me and that'll certainly deserve promoting here! So... if important news breaks (such as the launch of a new comic) then I'll blog about it. Otherwise, don't expect too many posts for a while. (Although I'll still be updating my other blog regularly.)

Remember, - the British comics industry isn't dead. It's just taking a power nap.

Great to hear you're getting the work, Lew! I'm about to start doing a comic about Ebola. Living the dream...

Thanks Steve. I'll probably post again soon when news of a new comic goes public. (One coming soon. No, nothing to do with me. :))

If you can find the time to update your other blog why can't you update this one? Did you know if you stop updating this blog your hit rate will go down?

Basically my other blog doesn't take long to update because I'm posting about my own work, - so no research needed.

As for "hit rates", it doesn't concern me how many visits this blog gets. Blogging is just a hobby. As long as some people read my posts, that's fine. If I was selling advertising space then hits would be important to me, but this is just a bit of fun. You can never determine how many people are properly reading each post anyway. The stats might show (for example) 250 visits to a post, but many of those could be people finding the link by accident and not reading the full post.

Even with intended visits, you never know if people are reading the post or just looking at the strips. It doesn't matter as long as some enjoy them.

Good news indeed Lew, well done - all that hard work you have put in is paying off big time - been a bad year for you so in some ways at least, it's picking up.

Thanks Paul. Yes, in terms of work it's a good time at present. Plus I have the freedom to attend conventions now so it's great to socialize with comics folk again. I still miss seeing and looking after my mum though, even though it's been over a year now. That grief never completely goes away unfortunately.

And that is something all 3 of us share and understand.
Don't worry, I'll keep checking and will be here whenever you return.

Very true John. Thanks.

Incidentally, there'll be a post in a day or two about a brand new comic.

250 hits a day? That's lousy. I thought this blog would get a few more than that. Just goes to prove the "UK comics industry" is as dead as a dodo. Kaput! Finito!

Lew Stringer said...

No, that was an example figure for one post, not the entire blog! I receive a lot more hits than that.

Anyway, the visits to my blog have no relevance to how healthy the UK comics industry is. There must be loads of people buying The Beano or 2000AD for example who have never heard of my blog.

British comics aren't dead while many of us are still creating them.

Wow that just goes to show how much I know about blogs as I think 250 hits a day is excellent - based on that daily figure that's over 91,000 hits a year which is approx 730,000 hits since you started this blog (I have a calculator handy and I'm bored :) )

Never a truer word said Lew (and John) "it" never goes away but you can eventually smile at the memories without it hurting so much (well so I am told)

Hi Paul, Well the hits vary from day to day. Sometimes more, sometimes less. The posts on Commando comic receive the least interest, probably because the same PR is sent to several other blogs and people read it there.

Looking at the hit counter on the right hand sidebar, the current total is 1,501,103 since the blog began in late 2006.
