2000AD: The 40th anniversary celebrations continue

It's been exactly 40 years today since the first issue of 2000AD went on sale in newsagents across the UK on 19th February 1977. Since I've already looked back at Prog 1 in a previous post (see here) I thought that today I'd look to the future, to show you preview pages of the anniversary editions coming your way this Wednesday.

There's not one but two editions of 2000AD out this coming week. The regular weekly edition plus the 2000AD 40th Anniversary Special! The special comes with a choice of two covers. The one above, by Carlos Ezquerra, or the one below by David Aja...

Had a great day at the 40th anniversary convention last weekend. Good to see creators like Pat Mills, Carlos Ezquerra and John Wagner, all of them still working on the comic.

Good to see characters like Robusters and Johnny Alpha are still going strong too. I originally came to 2000ad by way of the merger with Star Lord, all those years ago.

I haven't seen the 2000 AD anniversary special on sale yet. The cover picture you posted - the second one anyway - seems to say in the corner that it's on sale till May - plenty of time to look around, although with a real Lawmaster judge's motorcycle free with each copy, they could be snapped up quickly. Like that issue I missed of The Incredible Hulks, with actual gamma radiation for every reader. The one in a -really- thick plastic bag.

I seem to have missed an episode of the Jon Pertwee Doctor Who comic as well. Number four, the one that came with the working Time Vortex Manipulator, and disappeared off shelves of its own accord. Maybe I have time to catch it by other means; how do I do that best, in the UK? Go back in time to the 1970s myself and wait?

The Special is definitely out there, Robert. I bought both cover versions from newsagents (and they're in comic shops too no doubt). Yes, it should be on sale until May so hopefully you'll find one.
